Kan’dun Kulavaru - Sally's debut solo exhibition @ Art Gallery Male' (7th - 28th Nov 2023)

I didn't go, haven't seen it.

You may argue, that what I say about exhibitions or art does not matter, maybe you are right - but this time especially.

It looked gorgeous in pictures, the artistry definitely worth the prices, I'll probably get one.

THE CASE FOR HAND-PAINTED (NOT HANDMADE) TERRACOTTA POTS BY SAALI AT ART GALLERY MALE'.

I will keep this vague, short, a lil-all-over-the-place, and sweet.

1. Art is pretentious.

Pretentious being, asserting more [insert quality] to impress, than one actually posseses. Artists are all about being pretentious. So are others: [insert favourite GOAT]. People who achieve greatness have to take a chance on themselves; say, and then prove they are better than others. Show that they have something important to say, and sometimes, they are right. Other times they are pretentious.

2. The Creative Process.

Not to generalise, but, generally:

3. Art is a conversation.

Art creates, relates to and is meant for conversation. Whether it is love or hate, intellect or introspect, good art is always better at conversation. People care about art, whether they like it or not - it's a conversation, and its positive impact depends on the healthy discourse it creates and how civil we can be about the  discussion.

Saying art is good, much like the three points above, is a trust in one's judgment.

And if Duchamp asks me what is art? I say to him, not everything is art.

  1. i think art is just meant for consumption. the creation of conversation is a byproduct, i don't think good art is necessarily more conducive to conversation i mean what the fuck are you going to talk about re: david? what more needs to be said? a wow would suffice. i just think good art tends to hit you deep, sometimes you look at a painting and you cry dammit. it's a private experience, and it's intense and more than you can bear. and you don't want to share it with your therapist. because it's PRIVATE. but i mean, this is just squabbling over definitions. love your stuff, it's great to see someone write so freely and occasionally insightfully about art free of the clutches of chatgpt in this goddamned place. thank you. await your appraisal of afu's exhibition. i might have work for you. get in touch.

i agree, disagree and agree to disagree.

re: david, did you know that his hands are out of proportion? they are bigger than the rest of the proportions, and was done intentionally to make it look like they are the right proportions!
